Stacey Leondis Memorial Honors and Awards

  • The St. Anastasia (Stacey) Chapel in The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul
    110 Cathedral Avenue, Hempstead, New York
    Dedicated in Stacey’s memory by her Godparents;  John and Joan Leondis.
    This mosaic gem is a beautiful, comforting and peaceful chapel that will forever honor Stacey’s memory. It is open to the public.

  • Naming Plaque at MSKCC
    The Foster Foundation is pleased to announce that the office/exam room of Dr. Paul A. Meyers; Vice Chair, Academic Affairs, Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, has been named in Stacey's Honor.  Dr. Meyers is a pediatric oncologist with extensive experience in the treatment of sarcomas.

    On August 15th 2009, TEAM STACEY raised over $35,000 for Swim Across America.

  • Swim Across America 2011 - Team Stacey
    The third annual Swim Across America, TEAM STACEY, was held on Saturday, August 13th and was another huge success.  This year's team was made up of 47 amazing members and raised over $ 73,000.  Members were involved in many ways... 1/2 mile &1 mile swimmers, kayakers & volunteers.  Once again, it was a beautiful morning and a wonderful tribute to Stacey.  Stacey still has the amazing ability to bring us all together...all for one very important cause!!!

  • Swim Across America 2012 - Team Stacey
    The 4th annual Team Stacey swim was held on Saturday, August, 11th. The weather didn't cooperate that day, therefore the swim was relocated to the Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY.  Team Stacey didn't let the weather upset the enthusiasm and positive spirit it always has.  Swimming inside or out, the love and support were evident...as the photos show.
    Team Stacey had a record fundraising year....reaching $85,201.50

  • Swim Across America 2013 - Team Stacey
    The fifth annual Team Stacey swim was held on Saturday, August 10, 2013. The days prior to the swim (up until the night before) were filled with rain, wind and threatening weather.  Luckily, an hour before the final decision on where to hold the swim, the weather made a drastic change.  We were able to hold the swim outdoors at Morgan Park under a beautiful blue sky.
    Once again, members came from all over to honor Stacey's memory and her wishes, to raise awareness and raise money for cancer research.  Team Stacey was made up of over 40 members and raised over $ 85,000 !!!    Go TEAM STACEY!!
    A beautiful tribute to an amazing young woman who continues to inspire us all.

  • Swim Across America 2014 - Team Stacey
    We were so very lucky with the gorgeous weather we had on Saturday, August 9th for our annual swim. The sun was shining, a cool breeze blowing and the feeling in the air was one of love, caring and hope....lots of hugs all around!

    Our 51 ...yes 51....member team raised over an astounding $ 105,000-We broke all records with this complete TEAM effort!

    The support and generosity Team Stacey was shown was overwhelming. Every swimmer, kayaker, volunteer and supporter contributed to this Team Stacey history! We will continue to fight for a cure and forever honor Stacey's beautiful memory.

  • Swim Across America 2015 - Team Stacey
    Saturday, August 8th was another amazing day for Team Stacey! Together, our 55 member team raised an incredible $ 126,690!!! We are so thankful for all the love and support we received to reach this goal. Thank you to all of our members and supporters, we will always continue Stacey's fight!

  • Swim Across America 2016 - Team Stacey
    Team Stacey broke all records this year with an incredible 65 member team!! Saturday, August 6th was another beautiful day for the Sound to Cove swim! The water was clear, the sky was blue and our hearts were filled with hope. Our incredible team raised $ 146,215.30 for cancer treatment, prevention and research! Over the past eight years, Team Stacey has raised over $ 700,000 for cancer research and we will fight the fight to honor Stacey's dream to one day find a cure.

  • Swim Across America 2017 - Team Stacey
    What a year it was! Team Stacey was the number 1 team in the country!! Raising an incredible $ 184,795 for cancer research. With an amazing team of 70 members we were able to break all records and claim the top award in the nation!!! So far, Team Stacey has raised almost $900,000! Help us reach the million dollar mark for our 10th anniversary.


  • Swim Across America 2018- Team Stacey 10th Anniversary
    Saturday, August 4th was another incredible success for Team Stacey and SAA. Although we needed to move indoors because of the rain, our spirits were never dampened. Team Stacey was, once again, named the #1 team in the nation!!! The 85 member team raised an amazing $ 250,000!!! Over the last 10 years, Team Stacey has raised over 1.1 million dollars!!


  • Swim Across America 2019- Team Stacey 11th Anniversary
    We raised an incredible 270,535!! Our team, once again the #1 team in the country!


  • Swim Across America 2020- Team Stacey 12th Anniversary
    Despite the pandemic, we were still able to raise a total of 163,000!


  • Swim Across America 2021- Team Stacey 13th Anniversary
    We rebounded and had another wonderful year of members and donors! Raising an unbelievable amount of 272,500!


  • Swim Across America 2022- Team Stacey 14th Anniversary
    Our morning was fantastic! So much hope was in the air. Our incredible Team Stacey raised an amazing 267,100!


  • Swim Across America 2023- Team Stacey 15th Anniversary
    What an unbelievable year! Team Stacey raised an astounding 289,000!! #1 in the nation out of over 500 open water swims and pool swims.!


  • Swim Across America 2024- Team Stacey 16th Anniversary
    A beautiful morning raising 286,000!! The doctors and researchers had the best progress so far. Clinical trials have begun with great success!

  • Stone Bench at Yale - Saybrook Courtyard-Designed by Palmyra Gerakis ’07 March ‘10
    Stacey Leondis will be the first Yale College woman’s name inscribed anywhere on a Saybrook building or exterior.  


  • Chicago Half Marathon
    Meghan Garvey and her brother Corey ran the Chicago Half Marathon in support of the Foster Foundation.  Meghan and Stacey have been close friends since they met at the Garden City Middle School.

  • Stacey Leondis ’08 Memorial Fellowships at Yale:
    This fellowship was established by Steven and Lynn Leondis and John and Irene Gruska.
    These annual  fellowships are awarded to Yale College undergraduates majoring in the sciences and residing at Saybrook.

  • Yale-2010 “The Stacey Leondis Spirit of Relay Award" - Yale Relay For Life is happy to name Caroline Edsall & Barbara O'Donnell the winners of the 2010 Spirit of Relay award. Both of these women have been extremely committed to Relay for Life and we thank them for their dedication.
  • Yale-2011 “The Stacey Leondis Spirit of Relay Award" - Master Harvey Goldblatt, (Master G) of Pierson College was named the 2011 winner of the Spirit of Relay award. He was especially enthusiastic about Relay and supported study breaks, competitions and even recorded a video!
